Tom Douglas Literally Grilling for Good, Benefitting Food Lifeline

Photographers become photographers because we become obsessed with chasing brief but spectacular seconds in the day.

We become photographers because we fall in love with visually bringing meaning to moments.

A virus is ravaging cities across the globe and that is frightening. And I have to acknowledge I’m feeling other things too as businesses close and we are trying to insulate health.

Last Friday I didn’t just feel the loss of business, I felt the loss of purpose.

Not sure where to go next, I asked around and found my hope buoyed by some extraordinary people in my city. “It takes a village” is the saying, right? And when we can’t do it on our own, that’s usually the answer too, isn’t it?

In some strange but beautiful days, I got in touch with Tom Douglas’s media team who allowed me to photograph a truly moving event and I found that village in Ballard at a warehouse kitchen converted into a socially-distanced, drive-thru experience for patrons.

The Tom Douglas was on the grill, but all hands were on deck from Hot Stove Society to Dahlia Bakery to make something really special happen over the weekend.

These are some highlights shot yesterday at the Grilling for Good event. Grilling for Good served up powerhouse meals and beverages with all proceeds benefitting Food Lifeline, a critical resource to food banks, shelters, and meal programs.

If you can imagine this impact, Food Lifeline provides the equivalent of 134,000 meals to hungry children, adults, and seniors throughout Western Washington. every. day.

Hats off to this whole crew and the community who showed up to support.
It was amazing to figuratively rub elbows with all of you.

xx,

Deanna
